TELL Kyra Bartlett about the frustrations of unreturned emails and the 12-year-old will empathise.

Students were responsible for everything from getting sponsors to ordering catering, to recruiting facilitators.

"It's been a chance to take a leadership role and learn about later in life," Kyra said yesterday.

The conference will take place later this month over two days. Science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics workshops will be held for children across the region's Catholic Education network.

Gary King, co-founder of Universal Drones in Toowoomba, is one of the facilitators.

He'll be running a breakout group that will see students design an obstacle course before navigating their hovercraft drone through the obstacles and overcoming the set challenges.
