Empty WOW! superstore to make way for IGA

The demise of the WOW Sight and Sound superstore in Maroochydore 14 months ago has led to a new lease of life for the Wises Rd site.

A new IGA Marketplace will be trading at the Zone Centre in the new year.

As the first IGA Marketplace for the Sunshine Coast, it will add a diverse range of customers to the existing mix of service and lifestyle outlets.

Daniel Vella and Alex Carr, of Ray White Maroochydore Commercial, negotiated the deal.

Mr Vella said negotiations began soon after WOW vacated the site.

He said that WOW had been a solid a foundation tenant and after its demise, the site owners, Arkadia Property Services, had to look at other uses.

"We knew it was going to be a long-term process," Mr Vella said. Arkadia Property Services general manager Peter Cortis-Jones said the additional investment of close to $2 million was worth making.

"The Hopper Group owns the Marketplace concept and after witnessing the exceptional offer the two other Marketplace stores in Brisbane provide, we felt this was the ideal fit for the Zone Centre," he said.

"In particular, we saw the Marketplace concept providing the local customers with something special."

Retailer Brad Hopper said the store would offer a full IGA supermarket with thousands of weekly specials and everyday low pricing along with a specialised marketplace.

"Although it will be much like a traditional large supermarket, it provides much greater emphasis on quality fresh produce, delicatessen, on-site butchery, gourmet and health foods and the specialty food lines that aren't available every where," he said.
