Marau helping to make this road a little bit safer
FRIENDLY truckie Marau Hau was ready to deliver fill to a section of the Flinders Hwy where major widening and strengthening roadworks are in progress.
Big Rigs saw Marua - also known as Murray - on November 22 at the rest area near Mingela in the driver's seat of a 2012 Kenworth T409.
He works for Oakdare Holdings Pty Ltd and was ready to take his load to the roadworks so couldn't have a yarn as he was busy.
But he was happy to pose for a picture.
The work to widen the western highway at Mingela and Sellheim will make it much safer to travel on when completed, although many motorists have complained about the delays they have faced since work commenced in June this year.
Weather permitting, it will be completed by mid-2019 on a route frequented by triple and quad road trains.
Transport and Main Roads director-general Neil Scales said the project was jointly funded under the Northern Australia Roads Program.
"Through the Northern Australia Roads Program, we're delivering vital upgrades to improve transport networks and support economic development. The Flinders Highway works will improve safety, travel times and conditions for tourism and supply vehicles,” Mr Scales said.
