Man on a Mission

IN ORDER to set an example, the Bishop of Rockhampton, Godfrey Fryar, travelled down to Gladstone to volunteer his time.

The Mission to Seafarers in Gladstone, like much of the region, is currently experiencing a shortage in volunteers.

Bishop Godfrey said his trip was all about encouraging people to help out.

"If we want volunteers, then the bishop must set an example," he said.

The Mission to Seafarers is a missionary society of the Anglican Church, which reaches out to maritime workers all over the world.

The Mission to Seafarers in Gladstone was established in 1970. The current centre was built in 1997 and is located on Gladstone Ports Corporation land.
