Man killed in highway crash

A MANGLED wreck is all that remains of a four-wheel-drive destroyed in a horror head-on collision with a semi-trailer which cost a man his life on the Bruce Highway yesterday.

The vehicle had been travelling north along the highway, just south of Rollingstone, when police said it veered on to the wrong side of the road and collided with a car transporter.

The 31-year-old Brisbane man had to be cut free by firefighters and was worked on by paramedics but they couldn't save his life.

An EMQ rescue chopper was flown to the crash site, but despite the best efforts of emergency workers, the man died at the scene.

Two more men were taken to the Townsville Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. Townsville's Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the crash.
