Man in hospital after daylight baseball bat attack
A MAN is in a serious condition with a fractured hip after an alleged vicious daylight baseball bat attack in Mitchell.
Police allege a verbal argument began between the 39-year-old victim and a 42-year-old man and woman on Friday afternoon at the town's main intersection outside a hotel on Cambridge St.
Mitchell police Sergeant, Adam Robertson, told the Western Star the argument spiralled into violence when the 39-year-old was allegedly struck with a baseball bat, before the man and woman continued their attack with kicks and punches.

When officers arrived at the scene, the offenders had already left and the victim was receiving medical attention.
"We later found the pair at a residence nearby," Sgt Robertson said.
The victim is recovering from a fractured hip and is in a serious but stable condition.
The Mitchell man was remanded in custody and will appear in Roma Magistrates Court tomorrow, while the female co-offender will appear in Mitchell on Monday morning after being granted bail.
The pair have each been charged with one count each of assault occasioning in bodily harm while armed, and armed to cause fear.
The charges could be upgraded pending the victim's surgery tomorrow.
"We managed to investigate and interfere pretty quickly," Sgt Robertson said.
"But to have something like this happening in broad daylight, there's no excuse."
