Man hit by truck in Melbourne laneway

A man is fighting for life after being hit by a garbage truck in a Melbourne laneway.

The accident is believed to have happened on Degraves Street, a pedestrian precinct in the CBD, about 5.15am on Wednesday, police said.

The man was taken to the Alfred Hospital with head injuries, in a critical condition.

The male truck driver stopped and is talking to police as they investigate.
