Bruce Hwy reopens following serious traffic crashes
THE Bruce Hwy has reopened more than three hours after two serious traffic crashes closed the southbound lanes near Caloundra.
A motorist had to be cut free from his vehicle after he crashed into trees off the Bruce Hwy, about 4km south of the Caloundra interchange, about 6.45am.
He was trapped in the ute for about two hours.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the man, aged in his 20s, was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition with multiple injuries.
It was the first of two crashes to close the southbound lanes of the highway this morning.
In the second crash, which happened about 100 metres away and 10 minutes later, a motorcyclist was hit by a truck.

A man, in his 50s, was taken to Caboolture Hospital in a stable condition with an ankle injury.
Southbound traffic has been diverted down Steve Irwin Way for most of the morning.
