Man dead after in horrific Gore Highway crash

A HEAD-ON crash between a loaded cattle truck and a four-wheel drive has left a man dead and the Gore Highway closed for a number of hours.

The Chronicle reported the high-impact collision left debris strewn across the highway which remained closed at 4.15pm as emergency services worked to clear the scene and loose cattle be mustered.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, was not physically injured.

Inspector Paine said initial investigations indicated the four-wheel drive "may have crossed onto the incorrect side of the road".

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
