Man charged over police assault

1.30pm: A YEPPOON man has been charged with seriously assaulting a police officer after an incident at Cooee Bay yesterday.

The 28-year-old is alleged to have punched and kneed an officer several times while police were trying to arrest him.

He was also charged with contravene direction, threatening police, public nuisance and three charges of obstructing police after he was reportedly causing a disturbance in the area at 1.30am.

Senior Sergeant Max Bennett said police would not tolerate violence towards police and anyone behaving in a disorderly manner and causing public nuisance.

The man was released on bail and will appear in the Yeppoon Magistrates Court on March 4.
