Man accused of trying to rape 12-year-old girl

A 38-YEAR-OLD man has been refused bail, after being charged with assault with the intent of raping a 12-year-old girl.

The South Burnett man appeared before Kingaroy Magistrates Court via videolink on Friday August 24.

The man allegedly dragged the girl in broad daylight from outside a South Burnett primary school, before sexually assaulting her.

Magistrate Louisa Pink said he was refused bail as the allegations were made for a serious offence.

The girl was a stranger on a suburban street, she said.

If he was convicted of the serious offence, the maximum penalty would be 14 years in prison, she said.

The case was adjourned for further mention until October 15 at Kingaroy Court.
