Mackay councillors to earn six figures
COUNCILLORS will be able to receive a 2% pay rise as of July 1, 2017 which would tip all of the councillors into six-figure salaries.
The increase, determined by the Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal on November 24, shows that mayor Greg Williamson would be able to have a salary of $171,989, an increase of $3372.
Deputy mayor Amanda Camm would be able to be paid up to $117,265 a year; an increase of $2269.
Councillors' pay could go from $99,638 to $101,631.
These par rates are associated with the categorisations of the council, with Mackay Regional Council sitting in band five along with Cairns, Redland City and Toowoomba.
Whitsunday Region mayor Andrew Willcox, in band three, could be paid a maximum of $125,084, which is $46,905 less than Cr Williamson.
The deputy mayor there John Collins could receive $78,177, which is $39,088 less than Cr Camm.
The councillors in Whitsunday could receive $66,450, which is $35,181 less than Mackay region councillors.
Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Rockhampton and Gladstone are all on category four and their councillors will receive a maximum of $85,994, the deputy mayor $97,722 and the mayor $148,536.
The 2% increase across the chamber was determined just days before the council announced a 1.5% pay increase for the Mackay Regional Council workforce.
The council employees' pay increase went with another 1.5% increase awarded in April that was backdated to include the 2014/15 and 2015/16 financial years.
