M1 closed after 'too wide' load gets stuck

AN OVERSIZE truck is wedged under the M1 motorway near Newcastle, blocking traffic.

Media reports say the truck took the northbound off-ramp from the M1 onto Newcastle Link Road at Cameron Park at about 4.30am.

It's claimed the truck's load shifted, which caused it to get stuck between concrete barriers but Ray Hadley, from the 2GB radio station, argued the photo "clearly shows the object is too wide for the road".

NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol Chief Inspector Phil Brooks said one lane of the M1 would be closed "for more of the day".

He reportedly told The Ray Hadley Show "claims the truck's load shifted don't stack up" and that the load "appears to be too wide".

Traffic is being diverted to George Booth Drive and motorists can still use the Hunter Expressway Westbound.
