Warwick footy club gets its first ever female president
RUGBY LEAGUE: Mary-anne Loudon has become the first woman to preside over the Warwick Cowboys Rugby League Football Club.
Loudon was secretary in 2013 and will be joined on the new executive by secretary Garry Hanson, treasurer Liz Browne, senior vice-president David O'Leary and junior vice-president Don Browne.
"I have great enthusiasm for the club and want the Cowboys to be out there in the community and a strong force in the Toowoomba Rugby League," Loudon said.
"Secretary was a big challenge this season and I am extremely honoured to be elected as president for the next 12 months.
"We have a wealth of experience and knowledge on the executive and we will be a team just like our teams on the field.
"My focus will be on administration and the smooth running of the club and I want the players to be the public face of the Cowboys."
The 2014 season will be a celebration of 100 years of rugby league in Warwick.
"The 100 years will be a major milestone and Glen Whitton is already working on planned festivities," Loudon said.
"We are looking strong with player depth for 2014. There is a positive feeling in the club at the moment."
Her husband Noel played in the inaugural Cowboys A-grade premiership wins in 1987 and 1988 and is going into his second season as reserve-grade coach.
"We have been together for 22 years so I have gained a good insight into rugby league with Noel's wisdom.
"I hope what I lack in experience, I make up for in enthusiasm."
The club has already signed some players and secretary/registrar Garry Hanson wants to hear from all prospective players on 0426 507989.
The Cowboys have a Women In League Come and Try night on November 6 to gauge interest in joining the Toowoomba Rugby League women's competition.
