Lorraine worked tirelessly for her club, association

OBITUARY: Ipswich has lost one of its most dedicated hockey officials, a friendly person committed to her club and association.

Long-serving Collegians club supporter and Ipswich Hockey Association tech official Lorraine Lobegeiger passed away last Saturday morning aged 68.

As she often did, she was preparing to help with a chocolate drive fundraiser at the Ipswich Hockey Complex.

Former Ipswich Hockey president Margret Mantell paid tribute to Lorraine's service. "Lorraine was a very valuable member of the Ipswich Hockey family and made an invaluable contribution over so many years,'' Mantell said.

"Lorraine undertook many roles and was always willing to lend a hand where she could.

"Probably her biggest contribution was to the Southern Cross committee where she was our delegate for many years, including a number of years as secretary.''

Lorraine was a regular on the tech bench and was also Ipswich Hockey's assistant secretary from 2002-2007.

"But Lorraine's biggest passion was for Collegians,'' Mantell said. "They were her extended family and she gave her all for the club, working tirelessly.''

Lorraine started at Collegians in 1976, performing fund-raising duties before becoming secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary and patroness.

She was highly regarded as a tech bench official. In 2005, she gained higher level status.

Lorraine had a wealth of hockey knowledge and enjoyed helping others.

"Lorraine, along with husband Ron, have given so much to Ipswich Hockey that Lorraine will be very much missed and our thoughts are with Ron and all Lorraine's family at this difficult and very sad time,'' Mantell said.

Lorraine's funeral is at 10am on Monday at the Whitehill Church of Christ (219 Whitehill Road, Raceview).
