IT CAN be hard work but one couple is cleaning up in the truck industry.

"We're open from around 7am Tuesday to Saturday inclusive through to whenever the last truck is finished,” business manager Bryan Brown said.

"Saturdays are our busiest days but there's always room for more, especially on weekdays.”

Mr Brown or Brownie as he is more widely known, manages and operates Westbound Wash and Weed in Lewis St in Glenvale, Toowoomba with his partner Kristine.

It's on the city's western side but it's surrounded by transport yards, truck dealerships, mechanical workshops and tyre alignment and fitting specialists, vehicle repairers and even truck driving schools in the adjoining Carrington Rd /Boundary Rd transport precinct.

The recent reports about the sale of the property created doubt in the minds of many truck operators that the truck wash had closed down.

It certainly hadn't.

"The overall Lewis St property had been sold, but we've negotiated a new three-year lease with the new owners, so clearly we're not all washed up,” Brownie said.

"One big advantage our truck wash has is that while it is in the centre of a local transport hub with Boundary and Carrington Rds on two sides, a full combination, be it a doubles road train, a B-double or even B-triples, can be driven on to the grounds and straight on to the wash bay area. The trailers don't have to be unhooked,” he said.

Brownie's is the only dedicated, privately owned truck wash in the city and the service is second to none.

Brownie also has a rated ramped bay that's set up for under-body high pressure washes or steam cleaning. It can handle a prime mover, a wheeled earth mover or even a bus.

It's ideal for giving the vehicle a thorough clean down before a sale, before it goes over the pits for a roadworthy or if it's just going in for a wheel alignment or other regular repairs or servicing.

"We can also handle 4x4s, caravans, buses, campers and RVs too,” Brownie said. "As well as Kristine and myself, we have one permanent employee Brian, but we have direct access to a great temporary crew who are happy to be available at short notice.” And they are all well trained.

"The only thing that touches the truck being washed is the water, the soap, the cleaning brushes and the wash cloths,” Brownie said.
