Bright lights of Gladstone call after TV career in London

SHE may not be Spielberg's biggest Hollywood challenge just yet, but her years of television experience have certainly influenced her finesse behind the lens.

Cartwright Films owner Ellie Cartwright has lived in Gladstone for just six months, but her passion for the region's growth is already evident in her dreams and business.

Since following her partner to the area, Ellie worked in farming in order to add another year onto her working visa.

Her time with Silver Dale Eggs proved beyond successful and before long she was utilising her "London" camera skills for Gladstone region farmers.

"I've been in television for seven years," the English film artist said. "I did my degree in media and while I was in university I did a lot of work experience."

Ellie started her television years on a BBC children's program called Grandpa In My Pocket.

"My comfort zone is TV," she said.

From there, opportunities expanded.

"I got a gig on The Apprentice," Ellie said.

As a research assistant/producer Ellie's mission was setting up tasks for the candidates.

"We worked six days a week - about 90 hours each week," she laughed.

And while she admitted it was the best experience, after the three months she was utterly exhausted.

"It was really tough but luckily for me, once you have a show like that on your CV it just opens doors."

Ellie continued to move from strength to strength, working mainly for BBC1 shows.

Her shooting and editing experience grew and today she is putting her skills to use.

"I came over here, moved to Gladstone and realised there was so little in the way of media," she said.

With that in mind, Ellie began the journey into Cartwright Films.

Her first film job included a promotional video for Silver Dale Eggs, and today Ellie continues working with the quality free range farm.

"What we're doing now is a little video update every few weeks,'' she said.

"Last week they had a kids day and I did a little film and interview with the kids."

But her portfolio doesn't end there.

Wedding videos, short films and documentaries are areas also close to Ellie's heart and she hopes to pursue them passionately in Gladstone.

"My main dream is to have an award-winning documentary - about Gladstone of course."

This week Ellie was spotted combining her skills with the fashion world.

"I filmed them as if they were a group of girls having fun on the beach," she said of the Ms Havana Nights shoot at Tannum beach.
