Lolly drop a hit with the kids

THE annual Biloela firefighters' lolly drop was a big hit on Christmas Eve, with local kids - and their parents - turning out in droves to wave to the firefighters and grab their share of lollies.

Trucks from the Biloela Fire Brigade were joined by two ambulances this year as they attempted to cover every street in Biloela, throwing lollies donated by local businesses.

"It was good to see all the kids with a huge smile on their face," firefighter Matt Jordan said.

"Some of them went from street to street wanting more," he said.

The lolly drop, a long-time tradition that was rekindled by the fire brigade last year, received an outpouring of support on social media, with more than 140 likes on a Facebook post announcing the event.

"Awesome to see this tradition still going strong in Biloela! I remember this being done by my father and his teammates from the fire station 30 years ago ... Keep it up lads!" wrote Jason Rice.

"Thanks to all the local businesses that either had a monetary or lolly donation," Mr Jordan said.

"It's much appreciated by not only us, but the whole community."
