Locals urged to catch the aerospace flight
Local businesses with an interest in future aerospace opportunities have been urged to join in the drive to grow the hi-tech industry.
Member for Bundaberg, Leanne Donaldson said the government was seeking input into a discussion paper released this week aimed at expanding the state's already strong aerospace sector.
"We want to diversify our economy so that we aren't as susceptible to agricultural and resource commodity ups and downs," she said.
"Queensland is already well-known as the aviation hub of the Asia-Pacific, and with our established skills base we can accelerate the growth of our innovative aerospace sector.
"That means hi-skill jobs of the future, and potential business opportunities for our local companies, including those who may have previously supplied the mining industry.
"I'd encourage anyone who has comment or contributions to download the discussion paper and make a submission or complete the online survey."
The aerospace sector already provides 4500 direct jobs in aircraft component manufacturing and repair services statewide and generated around $600 million to the state economy in 2014-15.
Consultation on the discussion paper runs until Friday 27 May.
It will include workshops throughout May, including in Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.
