Mackay woman set to add flavour to new MasterChef series

FROM humble childhood memories of cooking sweets with her mother in their Walkerston kitchen to reality television chef - Sarah Todd sure knows how to cook up a storm.

The Mackay model is a contestant on hit Channel Ten television series MasterChef, securing a spot in the top 50.

Tonight we find out if she makes it to the top 24.

Ms Todd, who now lives in Sydney, described the experience so far as exciting and adrenaline pumping.

"I'm really excited for it to start to air; all of the cooks seem to be amazing," she said.

The self-proclaimed tomboy at heart said this competition gave her the chance to make her dream of working in the food industry come true.

She said the end goal for her was to own a modern Indian restaurant, with her husband.

Ms Todd is the proud mother of a baby boy and Indian and French food is her specialty.

"My partner is Indian so he taught me about Indian food," she said.

Ms Todd's mother was a single mum with a sweet tooth. Her daughter has fond childhood memories of looking at a kitchen table overflowing with pavlova, trifle and cookies that they had baked together.

Ms Todd said something you would always find in her kitchen was spices.

"(I've) always got spices... you can make a curry out of anything," she said.

In preparation for the show, she had continued to cook as she had for her family.

To see if Ms Todd makes it to the top 24, tune into Channel Ten at 7.30 tonight.
