Clarence Valley BMX Club to defend its tri-track title
THE HOME club has a great chance to defend its BMX Tri Club series title this weekend at South Grafton.
The Clarence Valley BMX Club is in the box seat to keep the crown says club publicity officer Mark Korb.
"We've been tracking pretty well with our results in the first two rounds at Casino and Sawtell," Korb said.
"We're looking to the club members to respond to the challenge.
"The more people we have competing the more powerful the club performance will be."
Korb said local riders will have a chance to test their skills against one of the region's finest competitors in Casino rider Zac McDonald.
"He rides No. 1 in the Open Pro Men, he's phenomenal," Korb said. "He would be the best rider in all three clubs.
"He's a bit of a role model for a lot of local riders, he's done that well in the sport."
Korb said at this level McDonald often rides with handicaps to give his opponents a chance.
"Sometimes he will start behind the others, or we'll give him an inferior bike to ride," he said.
"At times he's even competed on a mountain bike and won."
The local club has its own star in Emily Poulsen.
"She's an elite rider who would ride at an Open Pro level," Korb said.
"She races in the 17-24 group to get some serious competition.
"She sometimes races with the guys so she can get some speed up in her races before she goes away to compete."
Korb said the lack of competition in the women's events could soon be a thing of the past.
"The Sawtell club has a few good young girl riders who look to have the talent to compete at the higher levels," he said.
The event takes place on Sunday.
