Little learners settle into new room as school gets makeover
THE youngest members of the school community at Warwick Christian College are the first to benefit from the school's overhaul of its primary school campus.
Prep students entered their new classroom at the start of the term after renovations took place in June, transforming the previous boarding house into a new multi-purpose learning area for the Prep students.
Head of primary Faith Hull said the new room would provide a comfortable, safe and attractive learning environment for its youngest children.
"The rooms are spacious, bright and offer the students their own learning space special to them,” Mrs Hull said.
The new classroom has four learning areas within the room to facilitate different activities for the students.
"We have two floor spaces, we usually use the bigger space for reading activities and the second space if a student needs one-on-one time with myself or the teacher aid,” Mrs Hull said.
"Then the students have a desk area around the reading space, this is great for when I'm showing them something on the projection screen.
"Lastly we have the whiteboard desk tables, which we can use for a range of classes and give children individual work but still be a part of the same learning space.”
The new rooms are accompanied by a purpose play area, which will be completed by the following term.
The renovation project is part of a large-scale initiative from the school to create a lower primary school campus.
Mrs Hull said the Early Learning Precinct would help enhance the learning experience of the students.
"The younger students in Prep to Grade three will have their own facilities, to focus on the needs of early learning and development,” she said.
"The learning environment cannot be underestimated in regards to student wellbeing and with the new facilities we have the opportunity to provide a holistic approach to childhood development.”
To accompany the redevelopment, the college has also released new branding.
School registrar Sally Clifford said the new logo and motto expressed the school's foundational values.
"The new design reflects who we are as a college,” Mrs Clifford said.
"Christ, Community and Character, is the example we strive to teach our students to prepare them to be valuable members and contributors of the community and build students' resilience to handle any curve ball life throws.”
Over the past four years the school has achieved academic success with Independent Schools Queensland identifying them as number 12 out of 212 independent schools making significant gains in reading shown by NAPLAN results.
The Early Learning Precinct will be operational by the 2019 school year.
