Livingstone Council worker brings Marcia award to town
LINCOLN Bertoli is extremely humbled to have his writing efforts recognised on a state level.
The Capricorn Coast resident and Livingstone Council worker attended the Local Government Managers Awards in Brisbane over the weekend where he was nominated for an award.
Mr Bertoli took home the title of state winner of the Above and Beyond Award for his children's book about the cyclone which devastated the Capricorn Coast and Central Queensland early last year.
Lincoln authored and produced "The Day Marcia Came to Town" in collaboration with local illustrator Jet James.
The picture book tells the story of Livingstone's worst natural disaster in living memory through the eyes of eight-year-old Lachlan and his grandfather.
Mayor Bill Ludwig said the award was wonderful acknowledgment of all the hard work Lincoln had put into the local story book.
"On behalf of council and the Livingstone community, I would like to congratulate Lincoln on his well-deserved win for his innovation publication," he said.
"The award recognises individuals that go above and beyond their stated duties to deliver added service or initiative to their community.
"Lincoln, like many of councils' staff, portrays a strong and dedicated genuine commitment to these ideals."
Mr Ludwig said council partnered with the State Government to ensure every primary aged student in the shire received a copy of the book "to help them gain a better understanding and, in some cases, cope with what was a very traumatic event for many students and their families".
"It is hoped the keepsake book will resonate with the recipients in years to come," he said.
Lincoln said that he was extremely humbled to receive the award and thanked council and the State Government for their support.
