Life savers braced for Easter
NORTHERN NSW life savers are bracing themselves for a few busy weeks at the beaches as the Easter holidays come closer.
The lifesavers are already well-acquainted with the large crowds-having had their hands full over the last month with crowds at the 2012 Allphones Surf Life Saving NSW State Championships.
Northern NSW Surf Life Saving coordinator Scott McCartney said the number of 'incidents' in the water have been considerably low as of late.
"The busiest time of the year is during the Christmas holidays," Mr McCartney said.
"These days it is expected that there wouldn't be many incidents in the water, which is a very good thing.
"But this could change, with the Malfunction event and the Easter break coming up, there's going to be a whole lot of people that may need our help."
According to Coastwatch, the swell is expected to rise the coming months-seeing a good start to the Malfuntion, but will cause strong currents which may endanger inexperienced swimmers.
"Be warned, we may see a lot more rescues soon," Mr McCartney said.
