Letter to the Editor - Wednesday, March 11: It's an outrage

SURELY Chan and Sukumaran did not produce or refine the drugs they were caught with. Other co-conspirators, some presumably Indonesian, will still see the sun rise after the execution of this pair.

It is right for a modern and progressive nation to be incensed by what amounts to state-sanctioned murder, a practice with no intellectual justification and very little effectiveness. Indonesia is neither modern nor progressive on this front.

The drug trade, like all trade, depends on supply and demand for its existence. Governments, educators and particularly parents have the responsibility to instil the discipline and confidence in our children to reject drugs.

Without drug-takers there is no drug trade.
