LETTER: Balloon ban will save sea creatures

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY support Mayor Paul Pisasale in his bid to have helium balloon releases banned.

Animals frequently mistake balloons for food and choke or suffocate when they try to eat them.

Shorebirds and other animals can become entangled in balloon remnants and many birds have been found dead with bits of string wrapped around their necks, beaks, and legs.

Many dolphins, whales, and sea turtles die every year after ingesting deflated balloons, which resemble jellyfish and even land animals can accidentally ingest them.

There are many ways we can "honour" the dead without subjecting animals to this suffering.
