Learn about chair yoga at VIEW Club lunch
MAROOCHYDORE VIEW Club's June guest speaker is yoga and mindfulness guru Michele Dougherty.
Best known as Shell, she is a classic example of a seniorpreneur.
At age 60, Shell is not looking at full-time retirement for some time.
After decades of yoga practice and exploration of mindfulness, she undertook her qualifications in yoga and mindfulness teacher training to more deeply explore her love of both, only to realise that this is her "why”: to work with people to tap into their best selves and live a better life.
"For years, I remained in the conventional workforce across many roles in many industries for security of income,” she said. "My passion is now to help others to find their strength and peace in the here and now, through my business Shell Yoga and Mindfulness.”
Shell is finding a market for chair yoga which is performed in a chair and/or standing using a chair as support. This form of yoga or stretch and flow is suitable for everyone who, for whatever reason, cannot get up and down from the floor (seniors, overweight, unwell, injured, recovering or disabled). It can be gentle or dynamic.
Chair yoga is a fun, gentle yoga everyone can do that enables gentle movement and reduces the risk of stress and pressure on the body.
The added benefit of breath work with movement sends blood and oxygen to all the parts of the body and starts to strengthen your core and improve balance.
Shell will talk on her background, guide attendees through a couple of her favourite chair yoga poses and lead a short relaxation and mindfulness session at the Maroochydore VIEW lunch on June 23 at the Maroochy Surf Club from 11am.
Bookings close on June 18.
Cost is $30 for a two-course meal.
