Law for ladies

WOMEN, the law and accessing justice will be the themes of two free public information sessions in Coffs Harbour today, the first day of Law Week.

At 10am, Women and the Law will see experts from Women's Legal Services NSW discussing issues related to women's rights, family law and finances.

This session will be held in the Coffs Harbour Regional Art Gallery

Women are invited to come along and listen to what they have to say, and ask the questions that they need answered.

If you need to know about your rights as a woman, wife or mother, or whether you are protected financially if something should happen in your marriage or relationship, this session is for you.

There will be a number of free copies available of the Women's Legal Services NSW new publication – Women and Family Law, 9th edition.

Accessing Justice: a workshop for organisations that assist women experiencing family violence, will be held at 12.30pm today, also in the Coffs Harbour Regional Art Gallery

The workshop will be looking at AVOs, (Apprehended Violence Order) AVO breaches and strategies for helping women negotiate the justice system.

On Wednesday a free workshop on tenancy laws will be held at 5.30pm in the Coffs Harbour Library

Whether you are a tenant or a landlord, the Department of Fair Trading will be able to clarify issues about the new tenancy laws and provide more information.

Refreshments will be provided at all information sessions.

The information sessions have been organised by Coffs Harbour Library. Inquiries, please contact the library on 6648 4900.
