Late-night gas leaks a timely reminder for residents

RESIDENTS are being urged to check gas bottles for leaks after two separate reported incidents overnight.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews inspected a Newtown property about 9.40pm after residents reported a smell of gas emanating from gas cylinders at the property.

Crews shut off the natural gas line at the James St property and performed atmospheric tests to ensure the gas levels returned to normal.

It was the first of two incidents involving a suspected gas leak in the region.

QFES crews responded to a Miles property about 10pm after residents reported a strong smell of gas at the home.

Crews inspected a 45kg gas bottle at the home and monitored the area, ensuring safe levels at the Bishop Dr property.

QFES is reminding residents to be vigilant for gas leaks at their property and have the cylinders or systems inspected if concerned.

Phone 000 in an emergency.
