Last day for Year 12s
ON FRIDAY, Year 12s left the school grounds for the last time as high school students.
Stanthorpe State High School and St Joseph's Year 12 students celebrated their graduation on Thursday night with break-up days held on Friday where some tears were shed.
State High student Liana Allen, who was a 2017 school captain, shared a few thoughts with her fellow students, teachers and family members at the break-up day, and became emotional towards the end of her speech.
"I almost made it through the whole speech,” she said.
"I looked up and I saw everyone crying and I was like 'oh no'.”
Liana said she would miss the feeling of support she always felt in her school time.
"I will definitely miss the teachers and just knowing that everyone here's got your back no matter what,” she said.
"And definitely all my friends.”
Liana said she was looking forward to spending time with her friends at Schoolies before everyone was going their own ways.
Making good friends and fond memories, Liana will always remember her school years as a great time of her life.
"Definitely the friendships and always trying to strive for higher things and remembering the main game.”
Liana hopes to attend university next year, enrolling in either a degree in business or law.
Year 12 student Lachlan Smith, who was home-schooled until Year 11, has only been at SHS for two years.
"I came here in Year 11 and it was a bit nerve-racking at first but I soon found groups, friends that I could hang with and I've really enjoyed being here,” he said.
"There is a lot of opportunities here so I was able to do what I actually wanted to do. I really enjoyed being able to do actual practical experiments and stuff like that.”
"(My maths teachers) are all great teachers and I did well and I learnt a lot from them.”
Lachlan said he would always remember the friends he made at school.
"Hopefully I'll catch up with them in the future. But also so many of the teachers were just so brilliant and so memorable in each of their own ways,” he said.
