RACING: The Kumbia track will be in top racing condition in time for the Melbourne Cup, with the storm providing much-needed rain.

While the track itself was not damaged, 10 windows on the main complex and stewards room were smashed by the hail.

Secretary of the race club, Wendy Mathews, said there was no doubt the club would be ready for their annual race day on Tuesday, November 6.

"The rain will be great for the track because it has been so dry,” she said.

"We would think the course should be good. We are expecting another week's worth of rain and then it should be fine.”

With the community of Kumbia hit hard during the storm, and farmers losing their crops and homes sustaining damage, Matthews hopes the racing would be a day of celebration for the town.

"We want to have a good, happy day for the town and an uplifting celebration for Kumbia because they have all been hit hard,” she said.

The track, affectionately referred to as the Flemington of the bush is only raced on once a year with the golf club using the grounds throughout the year.

In the past year, the club has done several upgrades to their facilities including waterproofing the grandstand on the back of grants the club has received.
