Kozii is the choice of champions
KAY Shallcross has a story any businesswoman wants to tell.
It is the classic fairy-tale entrepreneurs dream of: success.
Ms Shallcross has nurtured her business for eight years, and under her care it has grown out of the confines of her garage into a giant warehouse at South Tweed.
Kozii Swimwear is 100% Australian-owned and can now lay claim to its own printing press, meaning Ms Shallcross no longer needs to use contractors.
“It’s very exciting; we’ve just moved into the new warehouse at South Tweed a few months ago and we have a big printing press to do all our sublimation printing,” Ms Shallcross said.
“In 2003, I started Kozii in my downstairs garage, so this is very exciting.”
The sublimation printing process involves using heat to transfer dye onto fabric. A special overcoat protects the print from discolouration and makes it water-resistant.
The former learn-to-swim teacher now has a group of sponsored athletes, Team Kozii, mostly hailing from the Tweed Coast.
Ironwoman Courtney Hancock is one of many sporting greats who choose to swim in Kozii designs and urges others to give the local label a try.
“I have always based my racing around a very high level of fitness and commitment. I also have to ensure that the equipment, gear and swimwear I use are the very best for me,” Ms Hancock said.
“I choose to wear Kozii because the cut and style of their swimmers provide excellent support and ease of movement when I am racing or during training sessions.
“They are made from superior long-lasting fabric that is resistant to the effects of salt water and chlorine and it doesn’t chafe my skin.
“I have tried a lot of swimmers over the years, but Kozii swimwear is the very best I have worn.
“The designs and colour range are also just stunning and stand out on the beach.
“Above all else, Kozii Swimwear is 100% made in Australia and that is one very good reason for me to support this local company.
“You’ll love them.”
