Knickers donated to women in need
IN LIGHT of International Women's Day, one Hervey Bay local has asked the community to spare a thought for those less fortunate.
Days for Girls leader Heather Sugget and her team provide women and girls in developing countries with handmade hygiene products.
Ms Sugget said they had exhausted their supplies after a sewing and packing day, when they produced kits to help women during menstruation.
"Perhaps businesses could mark International Women's Day as a day of having a collection for DfG," Ms Sugget said.
"We need girls briefs in sizes 10-14 and womens briefs in sizes 8-14 in a bikini style.
"We also need cash donations to purchase more flannel, which is tax deductible."

She said the sewing day was a huge success with more than 30 women and two brave men coming together to produce 185 kits.
"This equates to many hours of labour, many metres of fabric and many face washers, briefs, soaps and plastic bags," she said.
"Thirty kits will be going to Iraq in March and we are aiming for 200 kits to Papua New Guinea in May and 250 kits to Cambodia in November.
This equates to over 500 pairs of knickers alone.
Ms Sugget said without the community's support and donations, they could not complete the kits.
"In just six months, we have distributed 130 kits to Papua New Guinea, Cambodia and Uganda," she said.
"I am so thankful for their contributions.
"Each kit is estimated to cost $10 to assemble."
Ms Sugget said donations could be left at Mary Ryan's Books, Music and Coffee at shop 1, 414B Charlton Esplanade, Torquay, or Scooters and Mobility at 1/42 Torquay Rd, Pialba.
