STUDENTS at Kingaroy State High School swapped their white socks for crazy socks on Tuesday to support their classmate.

The school is putting their support behind Year 9 student Kalila Vukelic who is on a quest to fund a smart pup.

The pup will help Kalila, who is diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, by alerting her when a seizure is coming.

It is expected the school's crazy sock day fund raiser will raise $700 towards the Kalila's goal of $20,000 to fund the pup.

Year 12 student Laura Tessmann, who organises school fund raisers as a community chair, said it was rewarding to make a difference for a student at their school.

"It has been really good there have been a number of people who have gotten involved," she said.

School principal Ashley Roediger said the school had a long tradition of giving back to the community.

"Kalila is a valued member of the school and we feel that it is important to support the needs of all students and our community," he said.

"It's great to see that the entire South Burnett community is working together to help raise the funds for Kalila's Smart Pup."

This is one of a series of fund raising events the school will host to help Kalila get a smart pup.

The community can join Kalila's quest for a smart pup by donating to her campaign.
