Killarney celebrates their history with unveiling

WITH two new statues in place, Killarney and District Historical Society welcomed hundreds to town for their dedication ceremony on Saturday morning.

Historical Society president Tony Pearson said they had picked the perfect weekend to officially unveil the new bullocky and axeman statues that commemorate the town's timber industry.

"We couldn't have asked for a better day - from the patronage to the weather everything so perfect,” Mr Pearson said.

"We had somewhere between 200 and 300 people for the ceremony including three bus loads from Killarney Memorial Aged Care and they had an absolute ball.

"One lady even raced up to me just before the mayor's speech at 11 to say her daughter was on her way from Sydney.”

Mr Pearson said local entertainment and fun activities made for an enjoyable morning for all.

"The Warwick Pipe Band played for us and just made the whole atmosphere really wonderful,” he said.

"The kids dress up competition, I didn't expect it to be big but we had about five kids come dressed in bullocky-inspired gear and they all got a prize.

"Tracy (Dobie) enjoyed it and we had Jo McNally and Sheryl Windle as well and the artist Paul Stumkat and our previous president said a few words about what this means for the society.

"I want to thank the council for their support and everyone who joined in - it made a big difference.”
