Kids try out circus skills

INSPIRED by Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco, 17-year-old Kate Tawns couldn't wait to learn a few skills at the Empire Theatre's recent holiday circus workshop.

"I've been to lots of circus performances and I'm looking forward to learning a few basic skills today," she said.

Run by Brisbane-based Circa, the one day workshop covered juggling, tumbling and some basic acrobatics.

Instructor Ellen Grow of Circa, who has just returned from two years acrobatics training in China, said the workshop offered something for everyone.

"The circus is a great way to learn to work together and find what skills you're good at because you don't have to be a dancer or a gymnast, there really is something for everyone," she said.

The day of skills training culminated in a colourful and energetic performance for parents and friends.
