THERE was a bit of a skirmish at Seventeen Seventy this week as the SUNfest holiday activity program fired off with Laser Skirmish for the kids.

And didn't they get into it?

The boys from Wide Bay Laser Skirmish divided the group into teams and they were off, all over Endeavour Park, playing simulation games, such as Domination HQ, Search and Destroy and Capture the Flag.

"It was awesome,'' said 12-year-old Brodie Black.

"We captured the flag easily; the lasers are cool.''

"I got 36 hits as a sniper,'' said teammate Ryan Chang.

Described as a "grown up version of Laser Tag'' Laser Skirmish uses infra-red taggers that record immediate feedback and individual stats to be tallied at the end of the game in a safe environment.

Laser Skirmish is one of more than 40 activities organised for children and youth in the SUNfest holiday activity program all over the region, sponsored by, among others, the Gladstone Regional Council.

And still to come in the southern parts of the region are Warhammer Gaming at the Agnes Water Community Centre, Design and Screen print and Erbu Art at the Agnes Art House, Digital Faces at the Miriam Vale Community Centre, kayaking at Seventeen Seventy and surfing at Agnes Water.

In the Gladstone region, SUNfest runs until January 23.
