Keen learners put their hands up for Jumpers and Jazz class
IT'S the novelty skill Warwick textile artist Del Bryant didn't think would still be a craze five years on.
The self-taught arm knitter learnt through online videos and started her workshops for Jumpers and Jazz four years ago.
She is amazed by the craft's growing popularity.
"It started as a new hobby I wanted to learn and I thought it would wear off,” Ms Bryant said.
"But there's still a lot of people who have never seen it before.”
A room full of arm knitting first-timers were getting tied up at the Warwick Art Gallery today for Ms Bryant's Jumpers and Jazz workshop.
There's no knitting experience required to pick up this craft and it is a quick and easy way to whip up a winter accessory.
The style of knitting doesn't require needles or hooks - it's all in the arms to create chunky crafts.
"You don't need to have any special skills or knowledge of knitting, you just pick up some wool and get to it,” Ms Bryant said.
"Once you get the hang of it you can complete a scarf in 15 minutes, you can do it standing up, or even on a plane.”
The class members were making infinity scarves using two colours of chunky wool, however Ms Bryant said there were few limitations on what you could create.
"You can make blankets, cushion covers and string bags, it all depends on how tight you want your loops,” she said.
Ms Bryant's 11 students for the morning came from all over to check out the festival and put their hands up for the workshop.
Craft enthusiasts can phone Warwick Art Gallery to join the wait list for the next two-hour class, on Friday, July 27.
