Politician Bob Katter can create a lot of debate
EDITORIAL: Bob Katter knows how create a stir wherever he goes, and the Fraser Coast is no exception.
His controversial remark about the need to "control" the dingoes on Fraser Island is likely to divide the community... and it was probably calculated to do just that.
Whether he genuinely believes that our sporting heroes deserve a tax cut because of "the joy they bring" to the Australian public (as he said in March this year), or that the idea of same-sex marriage deserves ridicule (quoted in August, 2011) - it is clear he most certainly believes that no publicity is bad publicity.
Croc claims backed
NO DOUBT many readers will feel vindicated that another crocodile has been spotted in the Mary River.
We have had countless comments in the past year suggesting our friend "Mary Croccins" would not be alone.
Just over a week ago, fisherman Garry Whittaker told the Chronicle he thought there were three crocodiles in the river, although his claims couldn't be backed up by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection at the time.
Now they have the proof - of one extra crocodile, at least.
I can imagine rangers will be keeping a very close eye out for the third croc Garry says he has seen.
Now we just have to wonder how long it will be before someone finds a crocodile's nest.
