KAREN Newman has won a $1000 eftpos card from The Chronicle's Cashed Up for Christmas competition.

She initially forgot she had even entered.

"It was such a nice, easy online competition to enter, I'm so surprised," she said.

Ms Newman said the prize had come at a time of the year when money was sparse.

"It's really good to go into the new year with some extra cash," she said.

The $1000 will go towards food, fun and post-Christmas sales.

"Thank you The Chronicle for this amazing, last-minute Christmas gift," Ms Newman said.

Six winners were announced across the APN network.
