Just a grand to land a Legend

UNVEILED at the 2017 Brisbane Truck Show, the Kenworth T900 Legend quickly became a much sought-after truck, taking its place alongside other limited-edition models, including the Bicentennial Mack Super Liner from the late 1980s (of which only 16 were made), and Kenworth's T950 Legend from earlier this decade with (only 75 models built).

The 137th T900 to come off the Kenworth assembly line in Bayswater has taken a different path rather than being put straight into a transport application, being the first prize in a major fundraiser for the Hepburn Football and Netball Club.

Located to the north-west of Melbourne, the "Burras”, as they are known in the Central Highlands Football League, have been taking the Kenworth around to shows and events to display and sell tickets, with the prize draw taking place on March 30 next year.

Garry Rodoni, from the Hepburn FNC, was on hand at the Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo, where he spoke about the raffle, which has been a big undertaking for the club.

"Raising money for a footy club is hard work. This is a big step up for us and this presented us a great opportunity to do something different,” he said.

Having raffled off another T900 back in the 1990s, and with the support of Kenworth, the club forged ahead earlier this year with running another truck raffle, with only 1000 tickets to be sold at $1000 each.

With a total value of $384,000, including on-road costs, the Kenworth is fitted out with a Cummins X15 engine, Eaton-Fuller driveline, a high-rise Aero sleeper and all the stainless accessories and badging that signify its "Legend” status.

Finished in an Arctic white paint colour, the truck lends itself well to further customisation by the lucky winner.

Second prize is a $20,000 Visa gift card, with prizes running down to a $5000 gift card as for the fifth ticket drawn.

The uptake of ticket sales has been very good, with some ticket buyers who missed out on buying their own T900 securing multiple tickets in the raffle.

At the time of writing, more than 700 tickets had been sold, with the full allocation likely to sell out before the draw, so with Christmas coming up, the purchase of a ticket for yourself or someone as a gift might pay dividends.

With nine premierships in the past 30 years, the Burras have been successful in their endeavours on the football ground.

The indications are they will kick some big goals off-field, raising much needed funds which will be ploughed back into the club, and through that the local community.

"We are rapt with the take-up (of ticket sales),” said Garry.

"We are well on the way there to selling all our tickets, and this will help keep our club going forward - that's why we do this.”
