June has notched up 50 years of charity work with VIEW Clubs
IT'S hard to imagine anyone these days spending a lifetime doing one job or being involved in a club or organisation.
But an elegant June Shaw has been presented with her 50-year pin at the March meeting of Caloundra Evening VIEW Club.
About 100 club members were present for the celebratory dinner and June responded with a very humble and gracious speech about her lifetime of service to the VIEW Club and The Smith Family charity.
June said she had really enjoyed her time working for the welfare of disadvantaged people and she was grateful to be acknowledged by the club.
She was thrilled to be guest of honour at the dinner and those present were inspired by her acceptance speech, which resulted in a standing ovation.
In presenting the VIEW Club 50 Year Pin, zone councillor Margaret Elliott said volunteers such as June would never know the cumulative effect of all the little things they had done to help other people.
Club president Clodagh Barwise-Smith presented June with a bouquet of flowers.
Now in her 90s, June still attends monthly Caloundra Evening VIEW Club dinner meetings.
She founded the Glen Innes VIEW Club in 1968 and was the inaugural president.
At that meeting, the guest speaker was then Miss Australia Rosemary Fanton.
June also attended the Penrith, Western Suburbs, Pennant Hills and Nambucca Heads clubs before moving to Caloundra 10 years ago.
She was national councillor from 1994-96.
June was awarded the Order of Australia in May, 2003, and the medal was presented to her by then NSW Governor Marie Bashir for service to VIEW Clubs.
June Hadley-Shaw and Ros Cole researched and co-wrote A History of VIEW Clubs of Australia 1960-2000. June moved to Caloundra in 2006 after marrying Alistair Shaw.
