Julia’s snapshot of humanity delivers

DESPITE the title making it sound like she's going to bring me a pizza, Julia Zemiro's Home Delivery (ABC, Wednesday 9.05pm) is an absolute delight.

What's not to love?

It is 30 minutes of pure nostalgia as five well-known comedians take Julia back to the home of their childhood, retracing the route they took to school.

Surprisingly moving at times, wildly funny at others, this is a beautifully filmed snapshot of raw humanity.

The pace is perfect, with enough location changes to keep both interest and momentum going.

Recently, former Spicks and Specks team captain Alan Brough featured, back in his home town of Hawera, New Zealand.

As he wandered around his old family home, his primary school and boarding school, his face blanked with emotion in a strange contradiction.

I guess it was the shock of memory. Of the bullying he endured as the "kooky" kid from a family of actors. Of the first year at boarding school spent in silence, distressed at being away from home.

Some cutaways are framed like art, and music is used subtlely but to full effect.

Julia is the perfect host, respectful of the subject matter to tone down her exuberance and let her guests shine.

There is profanity, profundity and stunning scenery in this wonderful show. And the truly golden moments are when reminiscence momentarily fogs these people's eyes and they start, "I remember we used to..."

The rest of the series features Carl Barron, John Safran, Shane Jacobson and Noeline Brown.
