FROM concreter to singer, dancer and now actor, Johnny Ruffo is an entertainer of all trades.

The young heart-throb made his debut on Home and Away on Monday, adding yet another feather to his already full cap.

"I studied drama for six years at high school and after that as well, so I've always had ambitions to become an actor," he told The Guide.

"A lot of people probably perceive me as just getting the role, but I had to audition. I actually auditioned for another role and didn't get it."

Home and Away - Seven - Monday to Friday at 7pm

Ruffo plays Spencer's older brother Chris, who comes to Summer Bay to visit his sibling, who has run away from home.

"His initial intention for coming to the Bay is to get his brother to come home and sort things out with the family," he said.

Ruffo says Chris is a lover, not a fighter.

"He can be seen as a bit of a cheeky guy, but he doesn't cause any trouble or fights. He definitely stirs the pot a little bit, though" he said.

"Has his eye on all the women (laughs). "He loves travelling and loves flirting with the ladies."

The 25-year-old, who was a finalist on The X Factor and won last year's series of Dancing With The Stars, hopes his role on the hit soap will launch his acting career as it has for so many Summer Bay alumni like Isabel Lucas, Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher and more recently Lincoln Lewis.

"It's an amazing training ground and a really good platform," he said.
