Jimmy Barnes announces Mackay date

YOU'VE heard his songs everytime you've been to a pub in the region and now you will be able to hear him live in Mackay.

Yes, the working class man is bringing his cheap wine and a three-day growth to Mackay.

Jimmy Barnes announced his Working Class Boy: An evening of stories and songs tour would be playing at Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on March 14 on Monday.

The tickets go on sale from January 31 unless you're a Ticketek member and you can buy them on January 30.

On Saturday Barnes' tour went through Gladstone and editor of the Gladstone Observer Jon Ortlieb was there to soak up the atmosphere.

"For a rocker of his age to still be able to smash his signature tunes with the same pitch and vigour he did in the 70s as shaggy-haired bandana-wearing wild-child Cold Chisel front man is remarkable," he wrote.

"Fronting his now-young band, with a whole load of his kids in the line-up and a couple of handy lead guitarists, the middle-aged Jimmy didn't look out of place.

"He lived up to pre-concert claims he was looking forward to playing Gladstone. He was genuinely enjoying himself up there on a sweaty CQ evening with a lively, just as sweaty, crowd singing along to his big hits.

"The gig started with a couple of Barnsey's latest songs which didn't lack any grunt, then went his biggest solo hits with a sprinkling of Chisel classics."
