Jeff still enjoys amusing kids

AFTER 20 years of being one of the biggest children's performers in the world, Jeff Fatt is still as enthusiastic and dedicated to the act as the day he joined The Wiggles.

The talented purple performer said coming back to Rockhampton as part of The Wiggles Big Birthday Tour was something the group was looking forward to.

"We've been to Rockhampton quite a few times now over the 20 years, and it's great because these shows are a lot more intimate," he said.

"You're able to hear the audience a lot more too, so it's a great atmosphere." Jeff said the key to a good kid's song was the simplicity and repetition of it.

"We try to keep the music simple and nothing too deep, because the simplest things can be quite entertaining for them," Jeff said.

"We treat our songs like pop songs, and because we have a background in early childhood, we have an idea of how they're going to respond."

For The Wiggles, this will be one of the largest tours of this type ever staged in Australia with over 50 shows between October and December this year around the country.

Jeff said although there were so many children's shows on TV these days, and cartoon programs doing live tours, you can't beat the real thing.

"What you see on TV is what you see on the stage, and for some younger kids that can be a bit overwhelming," Jeff said with a laugh.

"But it's great to see them enjoying it and even the parents get into it too."

Jeff said to know The Wiggles were doing something positive for children, was what it was all about.

"I've had parents come up to me who have children with autism, and our shows are the only thing they respond to, and that's really heartening to hear."
