Jailing casts light on fund scandal
A PROMINENT whistleblower and Malaysian opposition politician has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for releasing a classified document on a state investment fund embroiled in controversy. Rafizi Ramli, deputy leader of the People's Justice Party, was found guilty of violating the Official Secrets Act by disclosing part of a government audit on the 1MDB fund, which was founded by Prime Minister Najib Razak (left). The fund is the focus of investigations in the US and elsewhere into allegations of global embezzlement and money laundering.
