Man throws ex-girlfriend's clothes on street, then beats her

WHEN a man's ex-girlfriend went to his house to collect her clothes, he punched and kneed her in the face and stomach until she was blue and swollen.

The 25-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to four charges including domestic violence related assault occasioning bodily harm when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court last week.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Wayne Bushell said the man threw his ex-girlfriend's clothes on to the front lawn when he heard she was on her way to collect them.

"He didn't want her to come inside the house," Sgt Bushell said.

When the woman arrived, Sgt Bushell said the defendant grew abusive and claimed the woman owed him money.

"He lashed out at the victim with a closed fist towards her stomach area," Sgt Bushell said.

"When she tried to protect herself, he began to knee her in the face and stomach."

Sgt Bushell said the defendant begged his ex-girlfriend not to come near him, but when she did he "just lost it".

"He began head butting and kicking her in the head, saying it was the knees that did most of the damage," he said.

Sgt Bushell said the man told police he "just wants the victim out of his life".

While the relationship was described as a "volatile" one, Sgt Bushell said it was a "very serious offence" and recommended prison time.

Magistrate Andrew Hackett said it was apparent the man suffered from a "hair trigger temper and mood changes".

"There seems to be something going on, you need to get to the bottom of that," he said.

Mr Hackett said photos he saw of the victim's injuries proved the severity of the attack.

"Two eyes are blue, puffed, swollen and there are marks on her arms," he said.

"The injuries inflicted on the victim are considerable, a lot of force was inflicted on her over a very short period of time.

"It must have been a terrifying situation for the aggrieved."

Mr Hackett sentenced the defendant to six months' jail, with immediate parole. Convictions were recorded.
