EAST-bound traffic on the Warrego Hwy near Marburg experienced a major delay yesterday after a four-wheel drive towing a caravan jackknifed and crashed into a guard rail.

Police were forced to divert traffic onto the road shoulder to get vehicles through because the crashed 4WD and caravan were obstructing both lanes of the highway.

Police said the female driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero tested positive to alcohol when breath-tested at the accident site.

Two fire engines were called to the accident after police became concerned that a 9kg gas bottle on the caravan had been crushed and might have been ruptured.

The 4WD knocked down part of the guard rail along the right-hand lane of the highway.

The road was reopened to traffic at 2.10pm after the 4WD and caravan were towed off the highway.

No one was injured.

Police issued the driver of the vehicle with a notice to appear in court after charging her with drink-driving.
