It's a high five for the Saints

AUSSIE RULES: All five BITS Saints teams from the A-grade to under-13 are into this Saturday's AFL Capricornia grand finals in Rockhampton.

BITSwere given a mighty scare by a plucky Rockhampton Panthers in the first half, but Ben Dempsey proved the trump card with eight goals which propelled BITS Saints to a 16.12 (108) to 8.10 (58) win at BITS Oval.

Dempsey booted six second-half goals and his team kept Panthers goal-less in the final quarter while they piled on six.

Saints coach Alan Watkin was relieved after the game.

"I think it was just our fitness at the end and we ran over the top of them and had the breeze at our back,” he said.

"Maybe the concentration was a little bit forward rather than focussed on today (Saturday), but the end result is that we're there.”

Saints will meet undefeated Yeppoon Swans in the decider in what many pundits label as mission impossible, particularly with injury concerns to Gottke Medallist Steven Pugh, Brendan Clarke and Mitchell Webster.

Less than a goal separated both teams at quarter and half-time after BITS ruckman Jacob Mills got the game's first goal into a two-goal breeze in the first term.

The Panthers were not without its chances and looked dangerous in attack where Sam Gudgeon snared two majors while live-wire Calvin Hockley was up and about.

Perhaps the best exhibition of local footy was in the third quarter.

Both teams produced brilliant play as goals were traded and it was too hard to guess as to what team will finish the stronger.

Pugh goaled after he pounced on an errant Clinton Evans handball to give the Saints a mini-break, but the visitors responded.

Patient and assured ball movement set up Aran Kneen for a left-foot goal and it went goal-for-goal.

Panthers had the chance to open a lead to beyond one straight kick after Hockley set up Evans to start the third quarter.

Hockley then had a difficult shot from an angle to only hit the post and perhaps that was the turning point.

Dempsey got involved in the next two passages of play.

Kane Haua hit him up with a lace-out pass and then Dempsey's handball to Webster gave Saints a nine-point buffer.

BITS Jake Mostert then booted a captain's goal and the third term ended with a Hockley hanger and subsequent goal before Dempsey drilled his fourth when he sharked off a Clarke contest.

Tyson McMahon was stellar in defence for BITS and he said Panthers made it hard.

"At half-time we were a bit flat and we thought we didn't come out out as well as we could have,” he said.

"Credit to the Panthers, came out strong and they really wanted to win.

"But we are just happy to win and get ready for the grand final.”

SCORE

BITS Saints 16.12 (108) d Panthers 8.10 (58)
